Como Charcoal Fireplace
A study in natural stone craftsmanship, this sculptural Hearth Fire Surround is crafted from Como Charcoal Limestone, bringing depth, warmth and architectural presence to the interior.
The rich charcoal tones and subtle tonal variation of the limestone create a sophisticated backdrop for the fire, while the considered detailing allows the natural character of the stone to remain the focus. Its restrained palette gives the fireplace a timeless quality, complementing the surrounding architecture without competing with it.
As part of the same exceptional residence, the fireplace continues the use of Como Charcoal Limestone established throughout the project, creating a cohesive material language between the sculptural kitchen island and the interior architecture. Using the same natural stone across multiple architectural elements allows the material to become part of the identity of the home rather than simply a surface finish.
For projects incorporating feature fireplaces, architectural stonework and bespoke natural stone detailing, early collaboration with Artisan Stone allows the material, fabrication and installation requirements to be considered alongside the design. Slab selection, stone movement, junctions and fabrication details can all be resolved early, particularly when working with distinctive natural stone such as limestone.
Artisan Stone specialises in natural stone supply, architectural stone fabrication and installation for luxury residential interiors throughout the South Island. We work alongside architects, interior designers, builders, joiners and homeowners to deliver considered stonework for kitchens, fireplaces, bathrooms and bespoke architectural applications.
The Como Charcoal Limestone fireplace forms part of the award-winning residence by Detail by Davinia Sutton, recognised as the 2026 SBID International Design Awards Oceania Regional Winner for Best Residential House Over £1M.
